Last edited: Dec 25, So, I gave myself Variations 2 as an X-Mas gift. Just started reading it, but the first item of difference is that it has a method for getting rid of the core resolution chart and doing with a dice throw. I'm not sure it's actually better than the original chart, as it still has some charts involved, although they should be fairly easy to memorize in quick order, so may not be necessary after you've used the mechanic, say a dozen times.
The original chart was a but hard to read anyway, so maybe it's good on those grounds alone. In any case, it does produce similar results, just in a different way. Going along with that, mythic variations 2 pdf download, the Chaos Factor also works differently from the original Mythic, starting at 4, never dropping below 3, and never going above 6.
I'm not quite sure how that will interact with the options from Variations 1 when it comes to the genre based charts I mentioned, but seems like an overall improvement. Detail checks give you some more general use random tables, replacing the Complex question rules in the base rules, or they can be used in addition as needed.
Again, they're very broad and meant to be interpreted as needed, but a good example chart exists to show how the designer intends them to be used. The example chart is actually pretty useful in that regard. The Event Check on a skim reading is pretty much just covering old ground with a slight variation. Behavior checks are a way to produce random but relatively consistent behaviors for more important NPCs over time.
The methods are meant for characters the PCs will be interacting with at least a few times, and even get down to helping with NPC motivations and related dialog. The statistics check is for creating random variations of NPCs and monsters on the fly, and basically determining how they rate versus other members of their species or how they stack up against your PCs. The text ends with a big inclusive example of all of this stuff in play, followed by all of the charts included in the text, for easy printable quick reference sheets.
My overall opinion from this quick reading? The big change is the replacement of the sometimes hard to read core resolution chart from the main game with a roll system. I'm not really sure which one is better, although Mythic variations 2 pdf download could see people who have been using that chart for a while and are familiar with what it does liking this mythic variations 2 pdf download better.
It's a tough call, honestly. That chart can be weird to use, but is pretty simple and modifier less largely. The roll method in Variations 2 has more mods to constantly keep in mind. Personally, I'd have rather just had an optional, simplified core chart variant than this roll system.
The rest of the stuff is useful, but deeply optional. Mythic variations 2 pdf download rate it as Nice To Have, mythic variations 2 pdf download, but not essential, mythic variations 2 pdf download. If you don't have Variation1, I absolutely recommend picking that up. You must log in or register to reply here. Top Bottom.
